Florian Meindl’s label FLASH Recordings welcomes back Heron who is one of the imprints favourite artists now making a return with his fifth release.
FLASH Recordings appropriate name matches the streamlined and slick techno sound, and Heron is an artist who perfectly matches the labels sound and stylish design.
Heron has also built an impressive back catalogue outside of FLASH, and his music has been a feature of other outlets including Soma Records, KMS Records and Sleaze Records (UK).
Based in Germany, Heron is an artist who’s dynamic style of techno can switch between being dark and hard to deep and emotional, with effortless capturing of the soundscape elements needed to define each sub-genre.
Canadian artist Greg Gow who’s previously released on SCI+TEC, Tronic, 100% Pure and Transmat provides the sole remix on the release, and rounds off what’s already an impressive package.
The four tracks on the EP showcase Heron’s versatility with the opening track “Woodbury” being up-tempo and pulsating with aquatic synths and a dancefloor focus.
Track two “Firmament” is a deep affair with its pads influenced by the classic Detroit sound, and that builds with a steady momentum matching the subtle sophistication of its chic sound.
Greg Gow adds his own melodic touch to “Firmament” for the third track, and strips things back with his remix having an atmospheric mood that’s both euphoric and hypnotic.
Finishing things off is “Stairway Souls” which has fast flowing percussion rhythms layered over a warm bassline and a vibrant lead synth rich in melody.
